IJPW Puroresu Power 2016 - NIGHT THREE

[The scene opens with an aerial shot of a studio set. There are two men sitting behind a desk. One is Yo Kurasawa - the legendary commentator, notorious pervert, and current Vice President of Talent Relations and Head Booker for Iron Japan. Next to him is Taka Shimura - another veteran voice in puroresu. A video screen is behind them.]

KURASAWA: Welcome to the English language highlight show for Iron Japan Pro Wrestling! No weight or gender classes! No rules! I'm Yo Kurasawa, and next to me is my longtime colleague and friend – Taka Shimura. This was the third and final night of Puroresu Power 2016 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. Fans packed the venue for all three nights. It's a small venue – only holding 2,005 – but it's an intimate place that has seen a lot of special moments. Tonight was no exception.

SHIMURA: We could all feel it before the show even began. Suda Tsukasa was spotted in the first row. For those who are new to puroresu, Tsukasa is the King of Korakuen Hall. Nobody has a better win/loss record, and nobody has produced more memorable moments at Korakuen Hall.

KURASAWA: He's been more of a spectator these days as he decides whether to retire or not. But it was an honor to have The King in attendance tonight. We crowned the first ever IJPW World Tag Team Champions. Also, Konosuke Usami was the challenger to Nobuyoki Katsushika's IJPW World Wrestling Championship in the main event.

SHIMURA: We'll start with a dark match report. Nayoko Kon took on Haruhi Sarumara in a contest between the two women who are students at the IJPW Dojo. Mabuchi Hida was the referee. Kon did an exploder to the outside off the top rope in the third minute. It was even until about ten minutes when it looked like Kon was going to pull away, but Sarumara got the win at 12:53 with an original backdrop.

Singles Match

Satomi Asano vs. Nicki Scherer

KURASAWA: The main card opened with the IJPW debut of Satomi Asano – an emerging star on the joshi scene. She took on Nicki Scherer – who we have seen only in tag team matches until tonight.

SHIMURA: We got to see more of what made Scherer such a star in the American and British indies. She's very technically proficient.

KURASAWA: Kuni Ariwara was the official for this match.

Six Person Tag Team Match

The Alternative (Vera Yordanka and Christy Hayden) and Miyazaki Bokkai vs. Kuni Hishida and Trans-Pacific Poison (Ginger Mattingly and Nori Imoo)

KURASAWA: Everyone in this match could have had a better weekend before tonight. Nobody in this match won anything on nights one and two. All six of these competitors were looking to salvage something from this weekend.

SHIMURA: Well, The Alternative only competed on the first night prior to tonight, but they did lose in that Six Person Tag Team Match. It was their partner who lost it for them though. That said, I felt that them and Miyazaki – The Eternal Flame – all came into this match with more composure their their opponents. Hishida appears to be frustrated recently and Trans-Pacific Poison might not be over their Tag Team title tournament loss on night one.

KURASAWA: Jimmy Erickson was the official for this match.

Six Person Tag Team Match

AKIO, Astro Honami, and Jackie Walters vs. Jocelin Masterson, Nobuo Shimizu, and Sakura Shizuka

KURASAWA: It normally would be an honor for everyone in the ring, even the opposition, to have a match with someone as skilled and efficient as Nobuo Shimizu. He's one of the most respected men in Japan. The thing is that he's also one of the most feared, and while he's not particularly a nasty opponent, I don't think anyone has snapped more bones with submission holds than Shimizu.

SHIMURA: AKIO and Shizuka had an interesting thing going on there. Do you think AKIO is jealous of her and Katsushika overtaking Imperial as the number one couple in Japan?

KURASAWA: I don't know about that, but it was definitely competitive.

SHIMURA: Then we take a look at the others in this match... Honami hadn't found a win in anything. Masterson started her Puroresu Power weekend by submitting Sun Demon in a multi-person tag match, but Lainey Boyle knocked her out last night. Walters was on the winning side of the Six Person Tag Team Match that opened our first night of Puroresu Power.

KURASAWA: The referee for this match was Nene Hishikawa.

Singles Match

Fabulous Adrian Bagglio vs. KANNON

KURASAWA: The next match featured two very charismatic men. FAB won his IJPW debut match against Astro Honami last night. He took on The King of the Dark World, KANNON, who got a win against Miyazaki Bokkai last night. FAB is a newcomer to Japan while KANNON was a formidable gatekeeper in this contest. Nanako Fujioka was the referee.

POST-MATCH ANALYSIS

SHIMURA: KANNON is so dangerous. I don't know how he breathes that fire, but FAB got a trial by fire tonight. KANNON was more of a test tonight. FAB is a demented man himself, but now he knows how far he needs to go to make it in the brutal world of Iron Japan Pro Wrestling.

KURASAWA: FAB got caught in the face by a fireball and got second-degree burns, so it's safe to say that he's fully aware of what can happen in an IJPW ring.

Singles Match

Lainey Boyle vs. Muffin Vanderburg

KURASAWA: These women have had impressive weekends. Lainey scored a knockout victory over Jocelin Masterson last night, but Muffin Vanderburg has been one of the big talking points this weekend. She won a Six Person Tag match for her team on the first night, then challenged Ryuichi Hojo to a match. What Hojo did to Muffin at the IJPW Grand Opening last month has been very well-documented at this point. Muffin proved to the misogynistic Hojo that women do belong in the ring. While she never got a bow or handshake from Hojo, she did get a big opportunity to improve on her Puroresu Power experience.

SHIMURA: Muffin's smile was back, but Boyle was all business. “The Boston Bitch” is one of the most intimidating women out there.

KURASAWA: Toyoko Toshikura was the referee for this match.

POST-MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

[Boyle stands triumphant with her fists in the air. Muffin is on the ground still, holding her head. Lolly Lea and Lorie Koenig run out and join Boyle in a beat down on Muffin. The Deadly Three stand over her and lay the boots in. Nicki Scherer, the other half of Charm Explosion, runs out and slides into the ring. This buys time for Muffin to get to her feet, but it's still 3-on-2 and the numbers game gets to Charm Explosion. Lolly grabs Nicki by the throat, lifts her up, and slams her down with a chokeslam that folds her up! Lainey and Lorie stomp Muffin down in the corner, but Lorie steps back to allow the dogged Lainey to choke her. The dojo students finally get into the ring to break it up.]

Eight Person Tag Team Match

Ultraviolence Union (Riddick, Ricky Holt, and Teiji Shintaro) and Jun Hageshii vs. Black Thorns (Ashley Thorne and Trista Capra) and Rotten Saints (Big Ugly and Freddy Deeds)

KURASAWA: This match featured eight of the most violent people in professional wrestling. Some interesting facts too... There were three Michigan natives: Deeds and Big Ugly come from Detroit, while Riddick hails from Muskegon. This was also the first time we saw the hardcore legends – Riddick and Trista Capra – in the same ring. Trista was in Japan in the '90s, but she missed the Rising Sun Wrestling hardcore revolution that Riddick led in the noughties.

SHIMURA: Then add two other violent anti-social men like Hageshii and Holt, and Teiji Shintaro... Of course, Shingai Shintaro was caked in his own feces.

KURASAWA: Ashley Thorne is kind of lost in this crowd in terms of violent capabilities... But she's not lost with me. I'm kind of open to a big strong women like that. I wouldn't mind if she held me down and gra–

SHIMURA: Who was the referee?

KURASAWA: Oh, uh... Cassidy Reischer... Oh, there's a story in there. She officiated the co-main event at the Grand Opening, and this was the first time she was in the ring with Riddick since he attacked her with a barbwire bat. Cassidy was a wrestler before becoming a referee until a neck injury put an end to that, so she's no stranger to getting beat up, but she found out that Riddick's world is pure hell. Anyway, show the match...

POST-MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

[The bell has rung, but things have just heated up. Everyone is in the ring and a big brawl has broken out. Cassidy gets flashbacks of what happened at the Grand Opening and gets out of there. Riddick is choking Trista Capra. Big Ugly has Hageshii cornered and the two trade punches. Holt back body drops Deeds over the top rope. Teiji has Thorne against the ropes and is biting her face. She grabs him and the two tumble through the ropes and to the ringside floor. Holt is now helping Hageshii with Ugly, and the two stop him in the corner. Trista claws at Riddick's face and gets him to release the choke. Now she bounces his head off a turnbuckle. El Loco hits the ring and he goes right at Holt! The dojo students once again have to run in and struggle to break everything up.]

*** CO-MAIN EVENT ***

IJPW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Final

Dave Manton and Stan Ward vs. Doyle Brothers (Ricky Doyle and Ronnie Doyle)

KURASAWA: It was time to crown the first IJPW World Tag Team Champions! Both teams were impressive up to this point, and both beat some tough opposition. Who won this battle of the gaijins: Manton and Ward – the Canadian and Texan, or the fiery brothers from Belfast? Kanzaburo Outakara was the official for this match.

*** MAIN EVENT ***

IJPW World Wrestling Championship

Konosuke Usami vs. (c) Nobuyoki Katsushika

KURASAWA: Nobuyoki Katsushika was knocked out by Ronnie Doyle last night in a moment that shocked the wrestling world. We've seen the giant lose, and we've seen him picked up many times, but we never saw him look as vulnerable when he was laying on his back. He had to recover and defend his World Wrestling Championship in the same venue 24 hours later.

SHIMURA: His opponent, Konosuke Usami, has been a rising star. He impressed Katsushika after beating Riddick in a twenty-minute war at the Grand Opening. The gentle giant was so impressed that he challenged Usami to a title match to close out the third and final night of Puroresu Power.

KURASAWA: Which of these men will go to World Crown as the World Wrestling Champion? The referee for this match was Masanori Katayanagi.

POST-MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

[Katsushika, with the title belt over his shoulder, calls for a microphone from the ringside attendant. Usami is leaning in a corner, favoring his back after the big slam he took at the end. The crowd quiets down to hear what Katsushika has to say.]

KATSUSHIKA: [In Japanese. Exhausted.] It's been a tough 24 hours... My head still hurts after Ronnie Doyle knocked me out. I will get to him. First, I want to acknowledge Konosuke...
[The crowd applauds for Usami.]
He's a tough opponent. Don't let this loss get you down. I challenged you for a reason. You belong here. You belong in these big matches. Your day as champion will come. I am determined to be the first ace of Iron Japan Pro Wrestling... This is my time now, but you will have your day, Konosuke...
[The crowd applauds for Usami. Usami bows to Katsushika.]
Now Ronnie Doyle... You shocked the world when you knocked me out. I have never been hit like that before. Because of that, I think you deserve a shot at my title.. But the World Crown Tournament is next. 64 of the best wrestlers in this world will compete over ten nights... The final will be at the Tokyo Dome, and I am determined to take the World Crown... The winner of that tournament will get to face me at International Incident in the Tokyo Dome in June... But if I win, then I get to choose my opponent for the main event at International Incident... If I win, Ronnie Doyle, then I will pick you to face me for my World title.
[The crowd applauds.]
There's one more thing I want to do tonight... My good friend, Suda Tsukasa, is at ringside...
[The crowd gives the loudest applause so far for Tsukasa, who remains seated. He smiles and waves at Katsushika.]
The King of Korakuen Hall! My friend, come in here!
[Tsukasa gets up, goes around the barricade, and climbs into the ring.]
We were talking earlier... You wanted to address the fans?

[Suda takes a microphone from a ringside attendant.]

TSUKASA: I might as well cut to the chase, Nobu... You know how I am. Besides, I'm getting old. I don't have much time left.

KATSUSHIKA: You're not that old. You're still competing!

TSUKASA: I'm old! What does competing have to do with it? How many other dinosaurs do you see wrestle? But seriously, I'm getting old... and it's no secret that I can't figure out if I want to retire or not. But I keep hearing about World Crown... and the opportunity that comes with winning World Crown... I am not here to announce my retirement. I am here to announce that, at 58-years-old, I am entering into the World Crown Tournament! The first few rounds are here at Korakuen Hall! This is my building!
[The crowd applauds.]
This could be my last chance on a big stage. I want this tournament to be special. I know it will take every last bit of fighting spirit... Especially if I'm to win the tournament... To headline the Tokyo Dome in May would be special. Headlining it a month later in a World title match with my good friend over here would be even better. I know it's a long shot... But I'll regret it if I don't enter myself into this tournament and give it a shot.
[The crowd applauds.]
And Konosuke... What this man said is true... and I hope to draw you in World Crown.

WRAP-UP

KURASAWA: It's been quite the three days... But now we focus on World Crown. The 64 person tournament will span over ten nights. The first three rounds will be here at Korakuen Hall. The quarters and semis will be at the Budokan. The final will be at the Tokyo Dome. A draw will be held to determine the match-ups in each round. Every match will have a time limit of thirty minutes. Nobody will advance from that match if it reaches the time limit, meaning someone could get lucky in the draw and advance with a bye.

SHIMURA: And some of the names that are rumored to be involved... Wow... This is going to be a crazy ten nights. Do you think we can do it, Yo?

KURASAWA: Can you tolerate me for ten nights in a row?

SHIMURA: I've tolerated you for this long.

KURASAWA: World Crown starts on Saturday, May 21. It will go to Monday, May 30. The first round draw will be held this Wednesday at the IJPW Headquarters here in Tokyo. That does it for us tonight. For Taka Shimura, I'm Yo Kurasawa. See you for the draw on Wednesday!

IJPW Puroresu Power 2016 - NIGHT TWO

[The scene opens with an aerial shot of a studio set. There are two men sitting behind a desk. One is Yo Kurasawa - the legendary commentator, notorious pervert, and current Vice President of Talent Relations and Head Booker for Iron Japan. Next to him is Taka Shimura - another veteran voice in puroresu. A video screen is behind them.]

KURASAWA: Welcome to the English language highlight show for Iron Japan Pro Wrestling! No weight or gender classes! No rules! I'm Yo Kurasawa. Sitting next to me is Taka Shimura. Tonight, we're showing highlights of the second night of Puroresu Power, here at Korakuen Hall. Taka and I called the action at ringside during the Japanese broadcast. This was... it was quite the show. I don't want to give anything away, but there are some big implications for the third and final night of Puroresu Power.

SHIMURA: We had the semi-finals of the IJPW World Tag Team Championship Tournament. Our two teams are locked in for the final tomorrow, where we will crown the first ever IJPW World Tag Team Champions, but there is some shocking highlights that you will not want to miss. I'm still in disbelief, Yo.

KURASAWA: I still can't believe it either.

SHIMURA: But we'll get to it all when we get to it. We'll start with a report on the dark match between Masuko Matashichi and Kaori Kuno. Tashiaki Suzuki officiated this match between two dojo students. Matashichi won at 13:54 with a powerbomb into a double leg hook pin. He was definitely the more impressive of the two, but Kuno stubbornly hung in there, often kicking out at just before three after around seven minutes.

Singles Match

Fabulous Adrian Bagglio vs. Astro Honami

KURASAWA: Our first match on the main card saw the Iron Japan debut of Fabulous Adrian Bagglio. FAB is a rather interesting character. He's also pretty controversial. The young man from Queens, New York is known to make his opponents feel uncomfortable with his sexual antics.

SHIMURA: How '90s of him.

KURASAWA: He's still a very dangerous opponent.

SHIMURA: Oh yeah. He's a big guy.

KURASAWA: FAB took on Astro Honami, who was on the losing end of an Eight Person Tag Team Match last night. This was the first time Honami wrestled in singles competition for Iron Japan. The official for this match was Kuni Ariwara.

Singles Match

Lainey Boyle vs. Jocelin Masterson

KURASAWA: Lainey Boyle and Jocelin Masterson have caught the eye of many fans. Boyle is the “Boston Bitch” who might be small, but she packs a strong punch. Masterson impressed many yesterday when she won an Eight Person Tag Team Match by submitting Sun Demon.

SHIMURA: Masterson has the size advantage, but Boyle doesn't seem to be one who lets that get to her. She was in the ring with the Ultraviolence Union yesterday and, while her team didn't win, she survived against three of wrestling's most dangerous men.

KURASAWA: The referee for this match was Masanori Katayanagi.

Singles Match

KANNON vs. Miyazaki Bokkai

KURASAWA: This was a match of two contrasting individuals. KANNON is The King of the Dark World and the creator of the Dark World Championship...

KURASAWA: Miyazaki is The Eternal Flame – one of the most captivating wrestlers out there. Last month, he scored a big win against the legendary El Loco. KANNON is on his way to being a legend.

SHIMURA: It was another big test for The Eternal Flame. He was on the losing end of an Eight Person Tag Team Match last night. He's not used to losing.

KURASAWA: You can say the same for KANNON. A big test against a rising star. Lost in an Eight Person Tag Team Match last night. And he might carry around his own belt, but it's because that's the only way he'll ever hold a title belt. The referee for this match was Nene Hishikawa.

Eight Person Tag Team Match

Black Thorns (Ashley Thorne and Trista Capra) and Rotten Saints (Big Ugly and Freddy Deeds) vs. Danjuro Komatsuzaki, Kuni Hishida, and Trans-Pacific Poison (Ginger Mattingly and Nori Imoo)

KURASAWA: Six of the competitors in this match were dropped from the World Tag Team title tournament in the first night: Ugly, Deeds, Danjuro, Hishida, Mattingly, and Imoo. The Black Thorns were not in the tournament, but this was a big opportunity for them to prove that they belonged after being on the losing end of a hard-fought Eight Person Tag Team Match the night before. The referee for this match was Toyoko Toshikura.

Singles Grudge Match

Ryuichi Hojo vs. Muffin Vanderburg

KURASAWA: This feud started last month, but there's already a deep hatred. It started when Hojo stuffed Muffin's head down his tights for a piledriver, then made her tap out to the figure four in an Eight Person Tag Team Match. Hojo didn't explain his actions until DanHojo were dropped from the World Tag Team title tournament yesterday and Muffin came out and challenged him to a grudge match tonight.

SHIMURA: Hojo believes that women don't belong in the squared circled. We first thought his actions were out-of-character. Then again, we didn't know Hojo was a staunch misogynist.

KURASAWA: Well, it makes sense in hindsight when considering the times I've seen him outside the ring...

SHIMURA: Muffin came out with fire in her eyes, which is much different from her trademark cheerfulness. She's expressed that not only is she upset with Hojo for what he did, but she's also disappointed in herself for taping out to him.

KURASAWA: Mabuchi Hida had the duty of officiating this heated contest.

POST-MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

[Muffin is on the second turnbuckle, celebrating her victory and waving to the fans. Her smile is back. Hojo leans on the ropes while holding his ribs. Muffin comes down and sees Hojo staring at her. She stands in the middle of the ring, where Hojo soon joins her... They stare in a very tense moment. With hands on her hips, Muffin seems to expect something... Maybe a handshake... But it doesn't come. In a bitter display, Hojo rolls out of the ring with his head held low. He's not sure where to go from here. Muffin shakes her head and continues to celebrate.]

Eight Person Tag Team Match

Ultraviolence Union (Riddick, Ricky Holt, and Teiji Shintaro) and Jun Hageshii vs. Konosuke Usami, El Loco, AKIO, and Killer Komukai

KURASAWA: Where do we start with this one, Taka?

SHIMURA: Well, let's see... Usami beat Riddick last month at the Grand Opening, then Riddick attacked him and the referee... Holt spent time at Loco's gym in Brooklyn, and nowadays Loco says Holt took his mask and burnt his face... Usami and Komukai teamed up in this one despite feuding for a bit at the end of last year...

KURASAWA: And they were on opposite teams last night.

SHIMURA: AKIO and Hageshii have a long rivalry... Speaking of Hageshii, what a downright terrifying four-piece he makes with the Ultraviolence Union. Speaking of terrifying, does Teiji The Terror ever clean up?

KURASAWA: A lot of names and a lot of back story in one match. Let's not forget that Usami still has his shot at the World Wrestling Championship tomorrow! Jimmy Erickson had the unenviable job of officiating this match.

POST-MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

[Loco is lying on the canvas and favoring his arm. Holt turns around and kicks him in the head, then starts stomping on the man who once allowed him to train at his gym! Riddick and Usami start to trade blows. AKIO clotheslines Hageshii, and both men go up and over the top rope! They start to brawl on the outside. Teiji takes Komukai off his feet with a murderous lariat, then proceeds to choke him. The eight dojo students finally jump into the ring to break everyone up.]

*** CO-MAIN EVENT ***

IJPW World Tag Team Championship Tournament

Semi-Final

Dave Manton and Stan Ward vs. Blazing Lions (Michinori Osaragi and Morio Kamisaka)

KURASAWA: These two teams have run into each other before. The rivalry was resumed in the chase for the IJPW World Tag Team Championship! You know the narrative – big and mean gaijins vs. national fan favorites.

SHIMURA: Manton and Ward knew everybody wanted to see them lose, but you could tell they reveled in the idea of knocking out the big crowd favorites.

KURASAWA: The referee for this match was Nanako Fujioka.

*** MAIN EVENT ***

IJPW World Tag Team Championship Tournament

Semi-Final

Doyle Brothers (Ricky Doyle and Ronnie Doyle) vs. Noble Power (Nobuyoki Katsushika and Sakura Shizuka)

KURASAWA: Nokuyoki Katsushika still had to prepare for tomorrow's World title defense, but there was a big chance for him to set up a once-in-a-lifetime night. Not just because he was looking at getting double booked, but how many people have the opportunity to defend their World title and win the World Tag Team titles in the same not?

SHIMURA: And with his girlfriend as his tag team partner.

KURASAWA: One could say that Katsushika has it made, but look at who Noble Power were up against tonight...

SHIMURA: The Doyle Brothers have a lot of respect in Japan. Noble Power knew they were going to be in for a fight.

KURASAWA: Cassidy Reischer was the referee for this big match.

WRAP-UP

KURASAWA: …. Wow. Thoughts?

SHIMURA: How does Katsushika pick himself up after getting knocked out? He has to defend his World Wrestling Championship against Konosuke Usami tomorrow night, here at Korakuen Hall. He has to return to the same venue he got knocked out in 24 hours later and defend the World title.

KURASAWA: Do you think Usami can take advantage?

SHIMURA: This is the best chance any challenger can have. Sure, this could light a fire under Katsushika, but he was knocked out. He probably shouldn't be competing tomorrow night. We know how much Usami feeds off the fans too. He's a big momentum fighter.

KURASAWA: What do you think about Manton and Ward vs. the Doyle Brothers in tomorrow's co-main event?

SHIMURA: I'm taking the Doyle Brothers. I'm finding it hard to see any team beating them. And to see Ronnie Doyle knock out Katsushika, of all people? Everyone knows he might be the hardest puncher in wrestling, but wow... That was a huge moment. Manton and Ward must be feeling good too after beating the Blazing Lions, but the Doyle Brothers are riding the waves of a memorable moment. Ronnie Doyle shocked the world tonight.

KURASAWA: The card for our third and final night of Puroresu Power at Korakuen Hall looks like this:

IJPW Puroresu Power 2016 - NIGHT ONE

[The scene opens with an aerial shot of a studio set. There are two men sitting behind a desk. One is Yo Kurasawa - the legendary commentator, notorious pervert, and current Vice President of Talent Relations and Head Booker for Iron Japan. Next to him is Taka Shimura - another veteran voice in puroresu. A video screen is behind them.]

KURASAWA: Hello, and welcome to the English language highlight show for Iron Japan Pro Wrestling! No weight or gender classes! No rules! I'm Yo Kurasawa. I'm joined by my longtime colleague, Taka Shimura. We're at Korakuen Hall for three nights of Puroresu Power. Tonight kicked off an exciting weekend that will end in a huge match for the IJPW World Wrestling Championship. We will also see the crowning of the first IJPW World Tag Team Champions.

SHIMURA: But those two things are on Saturday night. Even after tonight, there's still a lot of action to get through tomorrow. The eight-team tournament to crown the World Tag Team Champions started tonight, with the semi-finals set to take place here tomorrow.

KURASAWA: There's been some controversy in regards to one of the teams. That will be touched on later. Before we get into the main card, we will dedicate some time to the dark matches on these highlight shows. We didn't have one for the Grand Opening, but we didn't have a solid core of students in the IJPW Dojo who were ready. We had to use security for the last show to break up a fight. Now all of that, including ring crew, clean-up, and ringside attendant duties will be done by the dojo students. You will see them at ringside in black Iron Japan track suits.

SHIMURA: Tonight's dark match was Atsumori Nakadai vs. Masaru Maeda. The referee was Toyoko Toshikura.Maeda won after in 10:24 after a rush of punches. He kept attacking Nakadai after getting the pinfall. Maeda is a special breed of nasty. Nakadai has a lot of potential and he's a better wrestler, but Maeda is a better fighter.

Six Person Tag Team Match

The Alternative (Vera Yordanka and Christy Hayden) and Miss Lizzy vs. Charm Explosion (Nicki Scherer and Muffin Vanderburg) and Jackie Walters

KURASAWA: The first match on the main card tonight was an all-female affair. It's safe to say that everyone in this match is liked by the fans. Vera Yordanka, the Bulgarian punk rocker, has learned her craft here in Japan from the ground up. She even considers herself Japanese at this point, and speaks the language almost fluently.

SHIMURA: Eh...

KURASAWA: She does a very good job, Taka. Probably not in writing, but she definitely has the speaking part down. Vera has taken Christy Hayden under her wing – a newcomer to Japan who hails from Portland, Oregon. Together, they are The Alternative – two women who promote the freedom of expression. They were teamed with Miss Lizzy, who has bounced between here and her native land of Australia.

SHIMURA: You can see some of the Japanese influence in her work. Much like Vera, you can tell what inspired her to become a wrestler.

KURASAWA: Those three ladies were up against Charm Explosion, who were on the losing end of an Eight Person Tag Team Match at the Grand Opening last month. Muffin Vanderburg, who is often very happy, has been furious over the way she was treated in that match – when Ryuichi Hojo uncharacteristically stuffed her head down his tights on a piledriver, and still hasn't offered a public explanation.

SHIMURA: Some of Muffin's most vocal supporters were actually Vera and Christy! And here she was, fighting against them in this match!

KURASAWA: The other half of Charm Explosion is the very technically gifted Englishwoman – Nicki Scherer. Both her and Muffin are newcomers to Japan. They were teamed with Jackie Walters.

SHIMURA: Jackie has some of the most brutal knees and kicks I have ever seen. She's a name in the American indies. This was her chance to make a name for herself on the big stage of Iron Japan!

KURASAWA: One team had a good level of experience in Japan, while the other was made up of ladies looking to find their footing. The referee for this bout was Kanzaburo Outakara.

Eight Person Tag Team Match

KANNON, Los Asesinos (Raul El Aguila and Roberto Lopez), and Jocelin Masterson vs. Sun Demon, Jun Hageshii, Astro Honami, and HATOYAMA

KURASAWA: The next match featured quite a mix of characters when you look at it on paper. KANNON is the King of the Dark World, and he comes out with that Dark World Championship – an unsanctioned title belt...

SHIMURA: You wouldn't expect the “Dark World Champion” to team up with Los Asesinos and Jocelin Masterson, but he was all in if it meant getting his hands on Sun Demon and Jun Hageshii.

KURASAWA: KANNON has always been the opposite to Sun Demon in their careers, so it wasn't anything new to see those two at it in the press when the card for Night One was announced earlier this month. But KANNON/Hageshii has the potential to be a rivalry in the making.

SHIMURA: It's Jun Hageshii vs. the world. He could start a war if he was the last living being on this planet. I don't know how Hageshii does it in any sort of tag match. He hates everyone, but he pulls it together long enough to be a highly valuable partner. Guys like Sun Demon, Astro Honami, and HATOYAMA are definitely not his type either. He's willing to do whatever it takes to win. Jun loves winning more than he hates people.

KURASAWA: Masanori Katayanagi was the official for this match.

POST-MATCH ANALYSIS

KURASAWA: Of all the people in this match, it was Masterson who made a name for herself by making Sun Demon submit!

SHIMURA: Iron Japan isn't just a land of collective legends and well-known names. It's a land of opportunity, and Masterson made the most of hers tonight. She easily could have been lost amongst people like KANNON, Sun Demon, and Hageshii... But she won the match for her team. And while she might be a gaijin, you can tell where she learned to wrestle – right here in Japan.

Six Person Tag Team Match
Ultraviolence Union (Riddick, Ricky Holt, and Teiji Shintaro) vs. Deadly Three (Lolly Lea, Lainey Boyle, and Lorie Koenig)

KURASAWA: The next match featured three sadistic men against three notorious women. Riddick lost the Grand Opening co-main event against Konosuke Usami, then attacked him and referee Cassidy Reischer after the match. The hardcore legend is joined by a ruthless rookie by the name of Ricky Holt, who is a fellow creature of the cold upper midwest in America – Riddick being from Muskegon, Michigan and Holt being from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Rounding out their trio is Teiji Shintaro, who is the most noticeable man in every room he enters.

SHIMURA: Not just because of his look, but the way he smells! He's a coprophile who comes out covered in his own excrement!

KURASAWA: They were up against the Deadly Three – Lolly, Lainey, and Lorie. They beat Los Asesinos at the Grand Opening after a very impressive display from “The Boston Bitch” Lainey Boyle.

SHIMURA: Lorie Koenig didn't even have to do anything. She never got tagged in before Boyle knocked out Selena Martinez. Who would have thought being in an Iron Japan match could be someone's easiest payday?

KURASAWA: It was a battle between two imposing factions. The referee was Nanako Fujioka.

BEFORE THE MATCH

[“Unsettling Differences” by Blue Smock Nancy is playing as the Ultraviolence Union make their way to the ring. Riddick and Teiji climb into the ring, but Holt walks toward the announce table.]

KURASAWA: [In Japanese.] These are three of the most violent individuals in profe–
[Switching to English as Ricky gets close enough for his words to get picked up over the air.]
What do you want, Ricky?

HOLT: It's fucking bullshit, Yo!

KURASAWA: Oh, you've been on this all month!

HOLT: I just want everyone to know that it's bullshit that Katsushika and Shizuka are in the World Tag Team Championship Tournament and not Teiji and I! Why do they get to be in that tournament?! Because Katsushika is World Champ and Shizuka's fucking him?! What have they done as a tag team?! It's bullshit! It's fucking bullshit! Teiji and I are coming for those belts! Whoever wins that stupid tournament will have to deal with us!
[Points at Yo.]
Translate that to the masses, you kinky bastard!

Eight Person Tag Team Match

Konosuke Usami, El Loco, and Tokyo Queens (Tae Muraguchi and Kayoko Komon) vs. Miyazaki Bokkai, Killer Komukai, and Black Thorns (Ashley Thorne and Trista Capra)

KURASAWA: If you think Usami was just going to kill time before his World title match on night three, then guess again. He got to team up with the legendary El Loco, and shared the privilege with the odd couple – Tae Muraguchi and Kayoko Komon – the Tokyo Queens. Usami ran into familiar opposition in the form of Killer Komukai, who look to resume their battles in this new promotion. One of the individuals teaming with Komukai was Miyazaki Bokkai, who defeated El Loco at the Grand Opening an–

SHIMURA: Really?

KURASAWA: Yeah! He hasn't stopped talking about it!

SHIMURA: He pinned a legend in their first match out of retirement, so I don't blame him. Loco is the most prolific Cruiserweight Champion of all-time.

KURASAWA: Rounding out that team was Black Thorns – Trista Capra and Ashley Thorne, who were also disappointed not to be included in the World Tag Team Championship Tournament. Thorne is one of the strongest women out there. She's a power lifter from Vancouver who can drink anyone under the table. She also has a hell of a partner in Trista Capra – a 54-year-old wicked woman from Pittsburgh who is no stranger to Japan.

SHIMURA: Or to bloodshed for that matter. She might be old, but that means she's seen a lot! After terrorizing the joshi scene in the '90s, Trista disappeared in the noughties before coming back in 2010. She's just as evil, brutal, and tough as ever.

KURASAWA: She's still kind of hot too.

SHIMURA: I'll... um... I'll just say she's in great shape for a 54-year-old woman who brought deathmatches to joshi puroresu.

KURASAWA: Speaking of attractive women, the referee for this contest was Cassidy Reischer. She appeared to be more skittish than usual. The last time she was in a ring was at the Grand Opening, where Riddick assaulted her with a barbwire baseball bat. Anyway, onto the match...

IJPW World Tag Team Championship Tournament

First Round

Noble Power (Nobuyoki Katsushika and Sakura Shizuka) vs. Trans-Pacific Poison (Ginger Mattingly and Nori Imoo)

KURASAWA: This next match rolled in the tag team tournament. World Wrestling Champion Nobuyoki Katsushika went into Puroresu Power knowing there was a possibility of him getting double booked on night three, but he didn't want to hold his dear Sakura back from getting gold. He is also highly driven to become the first ace of Iron Japan.

SHIMURA: Noble Power hasn't been a team for long, but we're talking about the World Champion teaming with one of the biggest names in joshi puroresu. They have looked good as a unit before this tournament.

KURASAWA: Trans-Pacific Poison are still kind of new, but they've also been very impressive. It was Nori Imoo who got a huge pin fall over Kuni Hishida in a Six Person Tag Team Match at the Grand Opening. After looking for her breakout moment in the joshi scene, she got it in the inter-gender world of IJPW! Her partner, Ginger Mattingly, is no stranger to Japan either.

SHIMURA: Interesting fact: Mattingly trained at the same gym in Minneapolis as Ricky Holt! She's going to wear a purple jacket to the ring all through Puroresu Power as a tribute to Prince. Her and Imoo also plan to come out to "Let's Go Crazy."

KURASAWA: The St. Paul native, much like Imoo, has been looking for a breakout moment. They were the underdogs in this match-up. Jimmy Erikson was the official for this match.

IJPW World Tag Team Championship Tournament

First Round

DanHojo (Ryuichi Hojo and Danjuro Komatsuzaki) vs. Doyle Brothers (Ricky Doyle and Ronnie Doyle)

KURASAWA: There was a lot of heat leading up to this match! Danjuro Komatsuzaki's dojo has been going for awhile, and it has become the IJPW Dojo. Ronnie Doyle used to train in Danjuro's dojo. The thing about Danjuro is that, well... He's kind of xenophobic. Gaijins train at the gym, but–

SHIMURA: I asked you this during the Japanese broadcast, but why is he the dojo master again?

KURASAWA: He's the best trainer around. Like him or not, he's going to make sure only the best young prospects make it into an IJPW ring. Ronnie is not a young boy, however. He just wanted a place to train. The Belfast brawler doesn't take shit from anyone, and neither does his brother.

SHIMURA: Let's not forget Hojo. We mentioned earlier how he got heat over his... whatever the hell you even call it... that tight-stuffing piledriver on Muffin Vanderburg. DanHojo are neutrals, and they have their fans, but there were a lot of people who wanted to see the Doyle Brothers stretch and knock them out.

KURASAWA: The referee for this match was Mabuchi Hida.

POST-MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

[The Doyle Brothers have left. Komatsuzaki leans against the ropes, disappointed, as Hojo favors his arm. Fans start to make noise as Muffin Vanderburg comes out by herself. She grabs a microphone from a table at ringside.]

VANDERBURG: Hey Hojo! You haven't said anything after what you did to me last month! What the hell was what about?! You scum bag! You notice how I came out here by myself? Because this isn't about DanHojo or Charm Explosion. This is about me and you. Since you're not in the tournament anymore, I want to fight you tomorrow night!

[One doesn't need to speak English to know Muffin, who is regularly cheerful, is pissed off and calling out Hojo. Just to make it clear, she points at him, and then at herself, and says “ashita” – making it known that she wants to fight tomorrow night. Hojo calls for a microphone from dojo student Tomeo Komiya at ringside.]

HOJO: [In Japanese.] You want to fight tomorrow? No problem! I will prove that women don't belong in this ring! Inter-gender wrestling ruins our sport! I will make you tap out again! Stupid woman!

[Hojo drops the microphone. Its sound thumps through the speakers when it hits the canvas, making an awkward moment even more uncomfortable. Muffin doesn't know what he said other than he accepted, and whatever else he said wasn't very flattering. She can pick up on that based on the feeling in the building.

KURASAWA: [In Japanese.] That didn't take long. IJPW's second show and we already have a feud built on misogyny.

SHIMURA: [In Japanese.] Yeah... That's unfortunate. Of all the people on the roster, I didn't expect it from Hojo.

KURASAWA: [In Japanese.] I didn't expect it either, but it's not too shocking now that I think about what he's like outside of the ring. Let's just say that he's not the best with waitresses.

[Danjuro questions Hojo in the middle of the ring, but then he just shrugs after a few sentences and shakes his head. Muffin walks away knowing there's a Friday night fight to prepare for.]

IJPW World Tag Team Championship Tournament

First Round

Dave Manton and Stan Ward vs. Rotten Saints (Big Ugly and Freddy Deeds)

KURASAWA: This battle of the gaijins wouldn't look out of place in any street or bar. Dave Manton is a former bouncer and beer league hockey player from Winnipeg. He's formed a famous partnership here in Japan with Stan Ward – a tough cowboy from Bandera, Texas.

SHIMURA: They're mean and they hit hard. They love to fight. They have successful singles careers, but they became a team after a match against one another. The fans don't like them, but they don't care.

KURASAWA: They took on the Rotten Saints – Detroit's most notorious. Freddy Deeds is a very talented wrestler with a wide range of moves and strikes in his arsenal. Big Ugly brings the violence. He can take it just as good as he can give it. They called him Big Ugly since he was a teen because he's apparently had scars on his head since he was twelve.

SHIMURA: Some of those scars come from street fights and others are from backyard wrestling. He might be the only person in IJPW with a backyard wrestling background.

KURASAWA: He's at least the only one who proudly admits to it. The referee for this match was Tashiaki Suzuki.

*** MAIN EVENT ***

IJPW World Tag Team Championship Tournament

First Round

Imperial (AKIO and Kuni Hishida) vs. Blazing Lions (Michinori Osaragi and Morio Kamisaka)

KURASAWA: The main event showcased two of the most loved teams in Japan. Imperial were on the losing end of a Six Person Tag Team Match at the Grand Opening. Kuni Hishida has been respectful to Nori Imoo and given her credit for pinning her, but Kuni has also stated that she's not happy with losing in her first IJPW match. Her longtime partner in both the ring and in life, AKIO, has expressed his own disappointment and feels he's let his legion of fans down ever since falling from the world title scene.

SHIMURA: You could see how badly Imperial wanted to win when they came out. They view Iron Japan as a fresh start and a chance to regain a top spot in puroresu.

KURASAWA: But they got drawn against Blazing Lions – the most successful active tag team in Japan. They might not be as loved as Imperial, and critics often accuse them for lacking charisma, but they've built up an endearment through their many successes and fans actually want to see them win even more.

SHIMURA: They have a way of carrying themselves. Osaragi and Kamisaka are not arrogant, but they are confident men. They are confident because they are seasoned tag team veterans with a winning formula. Watching Blazing Lions trot out to the ring is like watching the World Cup champions step onto the pitch.

KURASAWA: Kuni Ariwara was the referee for this main event contest.

WRAP-UP

KURASAWA: That concludes the highlights. We will be back here at Korakuen Hall tomorrow night, in front of another packed crowd of 2,005. Here is the Friday night card:
